Sam dematerialized the Arcane Aegis into his inventory and looked around the clearing.

The sun was setting on the jungle dungeon world. Night was fast approaching.

The buzzing sounds of mosquitoes and flies could be heard in the distance. The jungle’s insects had already sensed the devil fairy’s demise and were now cautiously beginning to explore the islet on which the powerful monster had once resided.

Other than his battle with the devil fairy, the jungle had been quiet until now. He hadn’t heard any explosions of magic or special abilities. It made Sam think that the three other challengers were probably all still alive, plotting and preparing for an intense battle ahead.

Or one challenger had killed another silently.

No big battle.

No big hurrah.

If that were indeed the case, Sam wouldn’t find out who killed whom until the end of the challenge or if he stumbled upon the fallen corpse of the defeated challenger.

The tiniest hint of a sound echoed in the distance.

Sam’s ears immediately tensed.

Someone or something was nearby and approaching in his direction.

He triggered his mana sense.

His stomach lurched at the knowledge that his mana sense brought him.

There wasn’t one entity approaching him, but two.

That left a few possibilities.

Either it was two of the other challengers charging straight into battle with another, two monsters in a struggle, or some combination of those two options.

Sam kept his entire focus on his mana sense, keeping tabs on the two approaching entities.

They began to swerve in a different direction away from him.

Sam got out of his hiding position and crept in the direction of the two entities.

If it was two challengers, he could swoop in and claim the kill from the battle and enter the final round potentially far less exhausted than his opponent.

Sam moved quietly through the forest, getting closer and closer to the two mana entities.

In his mana sense, he could see that the two sources had finally approached one another and had come to a standstill.

Eventually, Sam came to another clearing in the jungle, and could make out two figures facing off against each other.

It was none other than Ravenna Shadowmoor and Grendel Blackheart.

Sam crouched behind a tree and watched the two fighters stare each other down.

The sun had set now and night had fallen over the jungle dungeon.

The glow of the moon and stars kept the jungle lit, but only just.

Sam had been dampening his own mana leak with the hope of not being picked up by the two challengers.

He was in the perfect position to swoop in and steal the kill of whoever was about to win the battle.

It also gave him loads
